Early Music Masterpieces from Germany

We shall study and sing a selection of motets by the great late-renaissance/early-baroque trinity of Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672), Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630), and Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654). The workshop is led by Philip Cave and will culminate in an informal concert at 4:00pm (admission free) at All Souls Episcopal Church, Washington, DC.

Chorworks Annual Summer Workshop

 

1 - 6 July 2008

Optional Pre-Workshop session June 30th & July 1st

Alexandria, VA

 

This year’s theme will be KINGS and CONQUISTADORS, Music of Old and New Spain. The workshop will study and sing music ranging from the medieval cantigas of the pilgrims to Sant’Iago to music of baroque Spain and Mexico.

 

The workshop will be led by Philip Cave, director of the early music ensemble Magnificat, with faculty members Sally Dunkley, Jacqueline Horner Kwiatek, Michael McCarthy and Steven Rickards. Participants will join in coaching sessions, workshops and demonstrations of rehearsal techniques, as well as more informal interactions with workshop faculty.

Home and Away – Composers Working Abroad

 

Featuring music written in diaspora – while the composer was resident in a foreign community. a one-day workshop led by Philip Cave.

 

Music by Peter Phillips, John Dowland, Richard Dering, Philippe Rogier, and featuring  Lassus’ “Missa Bell’ Amfitrit’ Altera” for voices and renaissance brass.
